We've got some major news to drop about YNW Melly's case, so let's get into it.

In a surprising turn of events, the double murder trial of rapper YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, has been declared a mistrial. After two days of deliberations, the jury couldn't reach a unanimous verdict.

Melly was on trial for two counts of first-degree murder for the October 2018 killings of fellow rappers Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas. If convicted, he was facing the death penalty. But Melly maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty.

The trial, which took place in Broward County, Florida, lasted nearly 20 days. After the closing arguments, the jury went into deliberations. But when they couldn't reach a decision, the judge ordered them to continue. However, even after an extra day, there was still no verdict, leading to the mistrial.

But this isn't the end of the road for Melly. Prosecutors are expected to retry the case with a new jury.

According to the police in Miramar, Florida, Melly and Cortlen Henry, who will be tried separately, allegedly conspired to make it look like Williams and Thomas Jr. were killed during a drive-by shooting after a recording session.

Prosecutors claimed that after Melly shot and killed Williams and Thomas, their bodies were taken to an area near the Everglades. There, Melly and Henry allegedly fired at Henry’s Jeep to make it look like a drive-by. The victims were then driven to Memorial Hospital Miramar emergency room, where they were declared dead.

Melly's defense team argued that he had no motive to kill Williams and Thomas, who were his "best friends". They also pointed out that the murder weapon was never recovered.

Melly's arrest came just a month after he dropped his project, "We All Shine", in January 2019. His collab with Kanye West, "Mixed Personalities", was his biggest track to date.
