Diddy Pushes for New Trial, Argues Sex Crime Law Doesn’t Apply

Diddy’s team is pushing for a new trial—or a full acquittal—after being convicted on two federal charges under the Mann Act. While he beat the racketeering and sex trafficking counts, his lawyers say the government stretched the law too far just to get a win.
They argue that what happened wasn’t criminal at all. The sex was between consenting adults, and the footage mentioned in court was allegedly private, amateur content—not something illegal or exploitative.
The defense also says the jury was unfairly swayed by unrelated evidence, including that viral 2016 video of Diddy assaulting Cassie. They claim it had nothing to do with the actual charges and just made him look bad.
Now, they’re asking the judge to toss the conviction or at least grant a new trial. Diddy’s also trying to get out on $50 million bond while waiting for sentencing, which is set for October 3.
